CMMWU o* wtaMwaS and VBOTft wSareSwr akmubl be* UHaM .ft was an occasion to stop iraffid And guests did exactly that waking up the road to the restaurant last Sunday afternoon.

The occasion? My dearest readers! THE birthday party of the year no less. Yes, to celebrate my advancing years and the fifth birthday of toe restaurant in town, Grimsby's threwa "Dynasty" party. The Beeps (Beautiful People), were : out In tuß farce... glamour was the order of the day. Ostrich feathers, jewels, black tie and s* glittered and rustled andwith the endless flow of champagne and witty, scintillating conservation, it Lwas certainly a party to end all parties. ’

There was no reason for the Carringtons and the Channings to be mere. Chrsitchurch came up trumps!! Californian aristocracy, eat your hearts out!! ,

The 85 guests were greeeted with a tree-lined reef carpet on what was a beautiful i afternoon. They entered a bower of flowers all

magnifidently arranged and smelling fragrantly of spring. "Blake' 7 Beaumont was resplendent in a silver-shot, black dinner jacket with the "touch-o-the-magic-silver" in his hair, eyebrows and ■ moustache; looking every inch like a power-hungry, well heeled plutocrat! Bex ("Dex") Morgan was similarly attired but nad the golden Midas touch and outshone everyone. He made the contents of Fort Knox look tarnished and the gold that glittered on many a Beep's hand brassy in comparison!

The box beauties would have paled next to our Southern belles. Pieter's Modelling Agency were fabulously represented by the stunning staff. Director Mie Abbott and her husband Mark made a handsome pair, as did fames Kyle with hrs lovely Air New Zealand stewardess wife, Alison. Alison made many smile with her delightful "Ms Tapperware" outfit. Kirsty lay also attended looking gorgeous, and was joined by fellow colleague Belinda KeHaway and hubby Stuart. Spotlight's lovely new director Janet Johnston looked fabulous in cream silk, and withher blonde hair and high cheekbones was definitely the >. Krystle of the afternoon. She was joined by the agency's stunning American secretary Caria, who was wearing a delicious little cocktail hat to match her sapphire blue outfit.’ The lady is "made" for hats, we agree, after seeing her model them in the patter the day after our social affair. Various members Of the legal fraternity were prsent with: their lively, bubbly partners. Robin and Jackie Butt graced our portals with son David and his lovely fiancee Kathryn Thompson. Robin has had a fairly ''Dynasty" like flavour to his life — he was the trainer of ; Camelot, who won the New. Zealand trotting cup. Looking and acting/as always) deliciously outrageous, Merryn Corcoran was in fine spirits with her merchant banker husband Tim. Merryn, who is a PR consultant par excellence, swept everyone off their feet In a glorious Mae West style gown in black with silver sequins (we're still picking them up off the floor!!). Itnas a swirling 'mermaid tail* and she topped it off with fabulous 'jewels' given to her by the famous David Hartnell. Looking terribly dashing in hot pink bow tie and cummerbund and cream was Phillip Hits, the hair stylist and Beverley ' Wesson. The charming and '-I very lovely Rose Young and her husband Ivan were also there. Rose is the Christchurch Town Hall's functions

consultant — she is highly respected in the hospitality industry.

Coming all the way from Timaru,

Karen Te Puke and her partner lan raised a few admiring eyebrows. Karen is the resident tutor of waiting service at Timaru Polyteat and lan works for the polytech here in town. We were delighted to see both ofthem. t

John Archibald, owner of the .. restaurant and wine bar, Vines, looked very debonair.-His lovely wife Margot wor a beautiful gown of deep, sea green tafetta, which was elegantly styled off the shoulders. Margot Owns the high society fashion boutique, Minnelli's in Bell's Arcade. The list is endless!) Indy Streeter, of Hey Judes hair salon in Papanui Road was in hhtfi spirits, as were Robert WHUams, area manager of Colmalco and hjs wife MieTerry Adams, of was definitely the "Dex" of the gathering with his lovely wife Lorraine. The "Alexis"

prize however, has to go to PR's numero uno. the ravishing See Rlckerby, Hill and Knowlton's regional manager. Sue was wearing a red (of epurse!) Marilyn Monroe styled dress and an edible little black pill box hat. Escorting the raven-haired beauty was husband Gary, who looked bon ton in black tie. They were a striking couple on the dance floor.

In attendance were three other Hill and Knowlton staff — they were quite definitely the best - looking contingent there! The incomparable Ln Munro dazzled all in her fabulous attire. She wore shocking pink and silver and was perfect, right from the tips of her silver heels to her beautifully made sequined hat. Belle of Merivale was represented not only by many of their clientele but also by Peter Lloyd Christchurch’s up and coming interior consultant. Louise Stegen was quite the "My Fair Lady" in her enormous black and white hat and was escorted by the nattily attired Simon Hales. Beauty therapist Janet Seal looked stunning in a beautiful dress which was of gorgeous shot silk, and was accompanied by Theo Giessen of wine family fame. Mrs D. Beaumont wore a beautiful pink chiffon gown and looked veiy elegant, as did Mrs Fletcher of Cranmer Courts. Religiously following her habit of delighting all, was friend Jackie Farrelly.
