Council block for sale?

A landlocked block of land adjoining St Albans Park may be for sale because the Christchurch City Council cannot find a use for it Councillors want a further report on the use of the 1201 sq m of land council officers say is unstable and full of peat

The block is separated from the park by a double

row of mature oaks and was originally purchased in 1949 for parking. Access has prevented its being developed for that purpose.

Previous approaches to owners of properties bordering the block have not found any interest in buying the land. Council officers say the block would only be of use to these people be-

cause access would need to be gained through an adjoining property. They suggested putting the land up for sale at a minimum price of $15,000.

Councillors, however, felt the matter of parking and access should be further investigated and asked for the report
