Hole a puzzle

PA Tauranga The cause of a 2mm hole in the ranchslider door of a widow’s home has the police stumped. The woman, aged 72, who did not wish to be identified, was knitting in the lounge of her suburban Greerton home about 7.30 p.m. on Monday when she heard a loud crash.

“I jumped up and drew the curtains to see what it was and there was nothing there,” she said.

' The widow found a hole near the handle of the door. The glass panel did not shatter and no trace ot any projectile was found in the room. The incident has puzzled and upset her. She called the police but they were unable to shed light on what had caused the hole.

Senior-Sergeant Bernard Urquhart said yesterday that the hole had probably been caused by a stone thrown up from a passing car, or some other sharp object. He said this type of incident was often treated more seriously by elderly people, especially those living alone.
