The person we are looking for must hold New Zealand Registration as a midwife, and as a Comprehensive or General Nurse. She/he must have had a minimum of three years experience as a registered nurse, which includes a significant period of midwifery practice. The Principal Nurse is responsible to the Board’s Chief Nurse for the supervision and management of all services provided at the hospital, and will undertake significant midwifery practice. Murupara Hospital is a sixbed maternity hospital serving a catchment population in the Murupara/Galatea/ Ruatahuna area in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. Current staff establishment is eight nurses, including Principal Nurse and Relief Midwife, cook and gardener. During 1987 there were 125 admissions, and 56 births. A twodoctor general practice services the hospital and district. Murupara is situated 66 km from Rotorua, and 95 km from Whakatane. The area is renowned for its hunting, fishing, tramping, and river rafting. The North Island skiing fields are three hours travel distant; and the coastal beaches little more than one hour’s drive.
