Kirton ponders options
PA Wellington Wellington’s rugby mentor, Earle Kirton, will consider his coaching options during the next few weeks. Mr Kirton is being tipped as a likely replacement for the retired Brian Lochore on the New Zealand selection panel, but, depending on lobbying during nominations being accepted by the Wellington and New Zealand
unions, he might have another year with the capital side. “I’ll have a long sit down and a think,” he said after his team had demolished Manawatu, 56-24. Mr Kirton is aware that his name is being mentioned for the national panel and also of the suggestions that his personality could clash with that of the present, All Black, selector, John Hart
“The whole thing might be out of my hands, but I would not foresee any personality clash arising." .... Mr Kirton’s record with Wellington in the national championship first division is Impressive and could earn him a place on the national selection panel. Under his guidance Wellington has won 19 of its 20 games over the last two seasons, 18 of the wins flpisecutively. ,
