Bogle presents folk

Eric Bogle, folk singer, is a Scotsman who adopted Australia and is now one of that country’s best known folk musicians Bogle arrived, courtesy of the New South Wales government, in 1969 and went to work in Canberra. He became an accountant, but kept his interest in writing songs. He had encountered and become a convert of

folk music during the peace marches of the 1960 s in Britain. In 1972 he wrote a song called “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda.” The recognition he won with that song encouraged him to abandon accountancy for music. He has since released six records and in 1984 received a gold album for the first, “Now I’m Easy.”

He has sung on radio and television and done many tours of Australia and other countries. ; Last year the Australia ; Federal Government gave him the Peace Medal for ' his efforts through music to promote peace. He also recieved the A.P.R.A. Gold Award. I The singer will give one i concert in Christchurch at ■ the State Trinity Centre on Sunday at 8 p.m.
