Audit for scheme
PA Wellington An audit of the Mana Enterprises scheme will be under way soon, said the Assistant AuditorGeneral, Mr Graham Vaughan-Jones, yesterday.
More details would be known later this week on the audit, which was expected to take several weeks. The Minister of Maori Affairs, Mr Wetere, announced last week the intention to ask for an audit after publicity about a confidential report critical of the scheme. Mr Vaughan-Jones said discussions had been held with the Maori Affairs Department. Before the release of the confidential report, the Audit Department had intended to make a routine audit on the scheme. This would have taken place early next year. “But given clearly the issues that have now been raised and the level of public interest, we have seen it appropriate to move that forward,” he said.
