Final Offer likely to outclass rivals

Special correspondent Wellington The classy five-year-old, Final Offer, should prove too smart for his rivals in the Tasman Liquor Free-For-All at the Wellington Harness Racing Club’s meeting at Hutt Park this evening. Final Offer has always looked the makings of a top horse. He raced at Hutt Park last February when he won a heat of the Lion Red Mile series.

The Boyden Hanover gelding won effortlessly on that occasion and recorded Just a tick over two minutes. He was driven by Tony Herlihy, who will drive him again this evening. Final Offer had not raced for several months after that victory but resumed at Timaru on September 12, producing a moderate seventh after Starting, from 20m behind. He has since, A won a trial and should strip much fitter this time. The mobile start will suit him this evening and though he will have to start from the second row, his rivals will be hard pressed to hold him out. Race Time Glenn was a beaten favourite on the first night but on Saturday did not have a lot of luck in the running. After being nicely placed early, he was pushed back to near last and had to cover a lot of extra ground to mount his challenge. He battled away well for third. He has drawn the front line this Jetbet: 3 ' Race 1 TF 6.10 MCWILLIAMS WINES TROT $3500: CO; 2400 m 1 5625 Herbie John 1. . M. Hasler it 2 532 Navy's Pride 2 .... J. evening and his driver, Peter Ferguson, will attempt to keep him handier this time. The horse’s form is certainly hard to fault.

Smart Way justified solid support when he won at Hutt Park on Saturday and must be respected again while Revae is a last-start winner over 2500 m at Claudelands. He has disappointed on a couple of occasions at Hutt Park, but has plenty of ability on his day. Russley Bridge was the only one to test Smart Way at the Wairarapa Harness Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday and he has fared better In the barrier draw this evening. The T.A.B. double will be completed on the Wairarapa Graduation Series Final in which Reba Lord looks the one to beat. He could not have been more impressive when winning his heat on Saturday night, scoring convincingly by a length and a half. Colin Butler has opted to drive him instead of the other heat winner, Columbia James, and the No. 1 draw boosts his chances even further. Antana and Columbia James have to overcome second-row draws, but must still be rated highly. Columbia James beat Antana by a nose on Saturday in the smart time of 3:5.3. Jambo, a good second on Saturday, has drawn well while Knock Wood and Seafield Fran cannot be dismissed. Raco 2 6.40 TENDERKIST MEATS MOBILE PACE $3500; CO; 2400 m 1 955 Morere 1........ J.
