Touch of Silver gallops best

Special correspondent Palmerston North The talented filly, Touch of Silver, looks to have come through her recent race at Waverley in great style. She was in the limelight at Awapunl yesterday morning' when she galloped in preparation for the Mess Time Handicap at, the Manawatu Racing Club’s meeting tomorrow. Touch of Silver’s usual rider, Maurice Campbell, was suspended at Ellerslie on Saturday so Gary Phillips will ride her at the Temperton Memorial meeting. All work took place on the plough, which provided good footing. The course proper should be firm for the meeting if there is no rain. On the plough Touch of Silver carried a fair weight as she ran 1000 m in 1:2.4, the last 600 m in 36.4 s and it was the best of the morning. She was beaten but not disgraced at Awapuni, but her im-

provement since has been quite marked. Travertine and Merchant Banker covered 1000 m in 1:3.6, the last 600 m in 38.6. Travertine also looks improved by a race at Waverley and could go well in The Silver Knight Handicap. Merchant Banker makes his debut in the Grey Culate Maiden. He is a Drums of Time gelding trained by Margaret Bull. Go Bush and Bay Star ran 1000 m in 1:3, slowing up over the last 600 m in 39s after Bay Star won the start He has ability and could show up in the Guess Who Malden, while the Hastings winner, Go Bush, is in fine heart for another winning bld in the Bleu Streak Handicap, though he has 57kg to carry against a useful field.

Rahanne and Lutece, both making fresh starts tomorrow, were timed over 800 m in 535, the last 600 m in 39s and both look fairly forward. Mr Truth
