Two laptops from Hewlett-Packard

Two new laptop machines are among the more interesting new products just announced by Hewlett-Pack-ard.

The Portable Vectra CS and CS model 20 are aimed at a market in America which is expected to reach SUS 7 billion by 1990.

The PCs are based on the Intel 8086compatible CMOS microprocessor. The Model 20 has a 20Mb hard disk. The PC has two 1.44 Mb floppy drives, and the Model 20 one. Both have 640kb or RAM memory. Up to 6Mb of extended memory can be added to the CS, and 4Mb to the hard-disk model.

HP has also announced five new systems for its Vectra personal-computer family: two powerful Intel 80386-based models, a low-priced entry-level system, and two enhanced versions of its current HP Vectra PC.

The HP Vectra RS/16 and RS/20 PCs are based on the Intel 80386 microprocessor. The entry-level HP Vectra CS PC is based on an Intel 8086-compatible

microprocessor, and the enhanced Vectra ES PC and ES/12 PC are based on the Intel 80286 processor.

HP now offers six industry-standard PCs, including the Portable Vectra CS computer. Each will be available in several configurations. HP also introduced a variety of hardware accessories and software, including expanded memory cards, Scinch internal flexible-disk drives, diskdrive controllers and high-capacity, high-performance hard-disk drives.

Two HP Vectra ES systems, enhanced versions of the current HP Vectra PC, are the basic model which runs at 8 MHz, and the HP Vectra ES/ 12, which now runs at 12 MHz. Both have 640 k-bytes of memory that can be expanded to 8 Mbytes and used for executable code as well as data.

Other new products include a colour ink-jet printer, the Paint Jet, ($3200), and a series of new terminals for IBM, DEC, • and general ASCII environments.
