‘Space Invaders’

By

MICHAEL CALDER,

aged seven, of Christchurch “David! Bruce! come on!” Mum was calling. “We are going to get some veges.” We all hopped in the car and were heading off to the orchards when Mum noticed a new

house was being built behind some trees. David said, “It looks like a space ship to me.” Next thing the car was heading towards the trees and sure enough there was a flying saucer sitting there. We were scared, except Bruce. He was excited he had seen flying saucers on television lots of times. Next minute the door of ' the flying saucer opened and steps came down. Bruce jumped out of the car and ran towards the flying saucer. Down the steps came the space creature. He looked scary and was much bigger than us, but Bruce was not afraid of

the creature. They were talking together and he handed Bruce a pair of sparkling glasses which he put on, and then they disappeared. The space creature went up the steps and Bruce ran back to the car.

The following week they went back to the space ship. Bruce ran up to the space ship to meet the creature again. All of a sudden the sparkling glasses reappeared on Bruce, he took them off and handed them back to the creature. The creature handed Bruce a big gold medaL The space creatures were very nice, and thanked Bruce for wearing the glasses, so they could see how earth people behaved, as the earth space ships are getting very close to the space creatures planet and they needed to know if to make the earth people welcome.
