Sir,—Over'the past year the Antarctic Treaty nations have indicated that an agreement for . minerals should be concluded as a “matter of urgency,” and they; imply this is not to reap the economic rewards for discoveries of oil or precious minerals. If commercial rewards are not the objective for mineral negotiations then surely conservation of : this last earthly wilderness would ■ be given justice and considera- ! tion in the tradition of the exist- ! ing Antarctic Treaty.
