Labour policies

Sir,—The Government’s policies are contradictory. On the one, hand we wish to have.equaljty,- on the other we are increasing the ' competitiveness of the business place. Competition means that only the best will win. To have total equal opportunity and equality, then let us destroy the concept of competition and have no prize-giving at schools. In the total free-market system the Government would have to withdraw any form of subsidy or intervention. This would probably not be acceptable to voters as then the dole would have to go as well. To create full employment we should go to a fully free market as, without the dole, the wage rates would adjust so that everybody was employed. — Yours, etc.,<
