The Dark Red Ruby

By Lauren Kidd aged 9, of Redcliffs School There was once an old man who lived out in the forest He had all that he wanted. The only thing he didn’t have that he wanted was a beautiful, terrific, tremendous, "gynormous,” great, huge, dark red ruby. This beautiful, terrific, tremendous, “gynormous,” great huge, dark red ruby was the dream of many other people. One of the other people who dreamt of having this dark red ruby was the Bad Devil, Sausage Head. One day the old man said to himself, “I’m so bored of thinking about this beautiful, terrific, tremendous, “gynormous,” great, huge, dark red ruby, I think I will go and look for it But I must be careful.”

So the next morning at 6 o’clock when the birds were still asleep and it was still dark, he sneaked

out and he took his dog. His name was Detective Dingy and he could sniff out anything the old man told him to. After one hour of walking, they came to a clearing. Suddenly Detective Dingy stopped and sniffed. The old man could tell his dog had found something. Detective Dingy started to dig. So the old man walked over. They both stopped still, and after five minutes of standing still the old man jumped for joy. (Guess what they had found?) They hadn’t found the really lovely, beautiful, terrific, tremendous, “gynormous,” great, huge, dark red ruby BUT they had found something half as good. It was a treasure map and it wasn’t any old treasure map. You could use it to find the beautiful, terrific, tremendous, “gynormous,” great, huge, dark red ruby. The old man

picked it up and set off again. At the end of the clearing they came to a big cave. Detective Dingy shot ahead of the old man and raced into the cave. After about five minutes of looking for Detective Dingy, the old man was deep in the dark, devilish cave. Just then the old man heard some barks nearby. He walked over to Detective Dingy and hugged him. Then Detective Dingy started digging.

The old man looked at what his dog had found. It was a body, and on the person’s jacket there was his name. It was Bad Devil Sausage Head, and guess what be had in his jacket pocket? Yes, that is right; he had the beautiful, terrific, tremendous, "gynormous,” great, huge, dark red ruby. The old man took it and went home. Now he had all that he could ever want
