Murder count after party

A man, aged 22, will appear in the District Court today charged with murder after a fatal stabbing in Christchurch on Friday evening. The dead man was Lynn Patrick Riley, aged 25, of Christchurch.

The stabbing occurred about 11 p.m. outside a house in Colombo Street, near Purchas Street. A scuffle had taken place outside the house where a party was being held, said the police. Mr Riley, who had several stab wounds, was taken to Christchurch Hospital but died soon after.

Colombo Street between Bealey Avenue and Purchas Street was cordoned while the police searched the area. A man was arrested on Saturday afternoon and charged with murder.
