Brierley after CSR?
By
RON WATSON
of AAP (through NZPA) Brisbane Two of New Zealand’s sharpest corporate chiefs, Ron Brierley and Allan Hawkins, are again creating as much havoc on this side of the Tasman as a pair of All Black prop forwards. This time they have crash-tackled the Australian industrial and sugar giant, CSR, Ltd. Mr Brierley’s Industrial Equity Ltd has built up an 11.09 per cent stake in, Pioneer Sugar Mills, Ltd, which CSR is trying to buy.
There are growing signs lEL may in fact be throwing a dummy. Analysts suggest it could be a set move to take-over CSR, which is offering its shares as part of the Pioneer Sugar takeover bid. On another field of play, Hawkins’ Equiticorp Tasman Ltd (ETL) has raked up a 16.4 per cent holding in Monier, Ltd, which is also subject of a CSR bid.
