Women’s indoor cricket

Sockburn scored an upset win over Howzat in the women’s indoor cricket competition, while 1.C.A., Russley and North Canterbury recorded easy victories. Batting first, Sockburn started slowly but a good third wicket partnership between Karen Lovegrove and Marcie Wason, which returned 38 runs, followed by a fine 40 run partnership between Karen le Comber and Jenny Robertson, saw it reach 85.

Howzat made a promising start, Angela and Ingrid Beijin making 24, but it failed to maintain its momentum. Accurate bowling by Wason and Jo Higgins kept the score to 63. Results.— Women: Johnson’s 67, Russley A 138; North Canterbury 197, Pavam 101; Sockburn 85, Howzat 63; I.C.A. 119, Russley B —3l; T.C.A. B 19, Russley A 172.
