Shed started without Paparua permit
The Paparua County Council’s finance committee expressed concern last evening that Meadow Mushrooms had started to construct a shed on its Prebbleton site without a building permit. Cr Walter Baker said the council “seemed to have special rules for Meadow Mushrooms’’ and if that was the case the building by-laws might as well be “thrown out the window.”
“The same thing happened with the last building. I’m getting sick of it,” he said. The council had previ-
ously agreed that all permits for Meadow Mushrooms should be referred to a special committee. The County Engineer, Mr John Annan, will investigate this decision to see if it still holds. Mr Annan said Meadow Mushrooms had applied for a permit on April 10 to build a lean-to shed at the back of its southernmost growing shed. The lean-to was to be used for repairing growing trays.
Permits should normally be dealt with by council officers within 10 days of application. On April 24 Mr Annan told
the County Chairman, Mr Jack Pethig, about the permit, and Mr Pethig asked that it be considered at the finance meeting.
Mr Annan said he did not see any reason for the shed not to proceed, but regretted that it had already been started. The committee recommended that the permit be approved, but that Meadow Mushrooms be informed it should not have started the shed without the permit and that similar circumstances would not be tolerated again.
