Fire razes farmland
Fire engulfed up to 15 hectares of farmland near Preeces Road, Waikuku, last evening. The fire, on the property of Mr Edgar Brown, began from a stubble burn-off which got out of control about 6.20 p.m. It was controlled by firemen an hour later. The Woodend Volunteer Fire Brigade was joined by the Amberley volunteer brigade. Two Rangiora District Council tankers and a vehicle equipped for fire-fighting, as well as the brigades’ own engines, were used to contain the blaze.
