Call for new policy ideas
Wellington reporter
It is important to get new things and new ideas for the Royal Commission on Social Policy to consider, says Ms Ann Ballin, of Christchurch, a member of the commission.
She said that if it were thought of as a Royal Commission on social welfare people would not
realise its breadth of interest and so not bother with it.
It was important that everyone realise the Royal Commission was concerned with social policy and not social welfare, right from the outset.
Social policy included health, education, justice,
housing, and other areas as well as welfare, Ms Ballin said. It was the first time for 50 years that social policy had been looked at in this wide-ranging way and it was important for everyone to understand how wide social policy was so that the Royal Commission could do the best possible job.
