Shadows consider 30-year reunion

The Shadows grow long — 1988 is the thirtieth anniversary of their formation with Cliff Richard, although the English singer’s band was then known as The Drifters.

Bruce Welch, The Shadows’ rhythm guitarist, said yesterday that Richard and th? group were considering a thirtieth anniversary tour and that Richard wanted to start it in South-East Asia. so there was some incentive for the thirtieth anX niversary tour to come to New Zealand. The Shadows had worked on a special television programme with Richard last year called “Cliff from the Hip,” the first time that they had worked with the singer for some time. “We played two songs,

’Move It’ and ‘Livin’ Doll,’ and we required almost no rehearsal. It was like the old magic,” Welch said. “Livin’ Doll” has been given a new lease of life after the British television comedy team, The Young Ones, did an offbeat version of the song with Cliff Richard

to raise funds for ityWelch said that Marvin had played on the Young Ones version of “Livin’ Doll,” along with Cliff Richard, and that the record had done extremely well in Britain, Australia, and New Zealand. It had gone to No. 1.
