Skip really Strum

PA Dunedin Skip, an acceptor for the Shotover Jet event for two-year-olds at Cromwell on Saturday, is in fact Strum. The alteration to the name was advised by officials of the Cromwell Jockey Club after advice from the Racing Conference.

Strum is an unraced filly by Uncle Remus from Millie Mellay, owned by Di Bowbyes, of Wairongoa Valley, and trained by Jim Pankhurst, at Wingatui. Mrs Bowbyes had been under the impression the horse was named Skip, not Strum, when placing the filly with Pankhurst. The filly was unplaced at trials under the name Skip last Friday at Wingatui. She was nominated and accepted under that name.

Jock McCulloch, the chief stipendiary steward who will be in charge of the Cromwell meeting, said that his inquiries had indicated some confusion with the spelling of the horse’s name at entry time.

He will put the results of his inquiries with the judicial committee of the Cromwell club on Saturday. Skip is a four-year-old mare by English Harbour from Agree.
