Addington market Top-line draft ewes better $20

Top lines of annual draft crossbred ewes regularly sold for more than $2O during a buoyant sale of store sheep at the Addington market yesterday.

Romney ewes from wellknown properties on Banks Peninsula attracted enthusiastic support from a big gallery of buyers. Five-year-old Romneys from J. R. Stanbury, of Little River, reached $27.20 (compared with $15.20 last year), and a line of similar-aged Romneys from A. J. Hutchinson, Wainui, sold at $26.80. Several other lines of Romney and Romney cross ewes fetched $2O to $23.

In the store cattle section, two lines of June and Julyborn calves gave farmers an indication of likely prices of calves later in the season. Simmental steer calves from P. D. Hastings, Irwell, reached $402, and Angus-Hereford-Shorthorn cross steers from E. A. Hutchinson, Te Oka, sole to $386 (compared with $344 last year).
