Pleasure for insatiable pop appetites
“Heartbeat City” is a. new video pop programme, beginning tonight, for modern fans who just cannot get enough.
Screening Friday nights on Two at 11 p.m., "Heartbeat City” is designed to fill the gap between the “Radio With Pictures” rock format and the strictly Top 20 format of “Ready To Roll.” The producer, Peter Blake, says there are many pop videos which never make it on to the higher regions of the charts, but are still of interest to the public. “Heartbeat City” would provide an opportunity to screen these.
Likewise, material that does not quite fit the rock approach will fit easily into the “Heartbeat City”
format, including soul music and other adultorientated pop and rock. Major features of the show, says Blake, will be regular archive clips from the vaults — anything from punk to pop to British and American rock and roll.
Fifteen minutes or so of every show will also be devoted to specific concert footage. The likes of Tom Petty, Simple Minds, Yes, and Black Sabbath are projected for this segment
Blake also hopes to be able to present the odd bit of overseas interview and news items on rock events. The show itself will not have a presenter. The idea is to keep it moving along at a fast pace for a fun Friday audience.
