Virginia Wade selected
NZPA-Reuter London Virginia Wade, the 1977 Wimbledon women’s champion, has been selected at the age of 41 for Britain’s Wightman Cup team in the annual match against the United States from October 30 to November 1. Wade, who has retired from top-class tennis, will be making her twentysecond consecutive appearance. In Paris, meanwhile, it
was announced that John McEnroe, the former world No. 1 will compete in the Paris Open tennis tournament between October 27 and November 2, tournament organisers said yesterday. McEnroe recently returned to the grand prix circuit after a break of seven months. The organisers said that the Wimbledon champion, Boris Becker, was also expected to compete.
