Swimmer suspended
NZPA-Reuter Sydney An Australian swimming star, Neil Brooks, was suspended for six months yesterday after an investigation into incidents during the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh and the world championships in Madrid, swimming authorities said. Brooks, aged 24, is the third Australian swimmer to be banned from competition for misbehaviour
at the games in September. Brett Stocks, aged 23, was suspended for two years last month and Jody McGibbon, aged 17, for 12 months. Brooks, who has won Olympic and Commonwealth gold medals in the 4 x 100 metres free style relay, was suspended for breaches of management directions and behaviour, said the director
of Australian Swimming Incorporated, Craig McLatchey. The suspension takes effect from September 2 and will prevent Brooks from competing in this year’s Australian championships iri Perth. Mr McLatchey did not give details of Brooks’ alleged misbehaviour in Edinburgh or during the world championships in Madrid.
