Architect’s answer: two buildings in one

The Businessworld/ Computer Land, building in Oxford Terrace is the only one of its type in Christchurch. The architects, Charles R. Thomas and Associates, were faced with the problem of erecting a building

on two separately owned land titles. Their solution has been two buildings that are both separate and one. They look to be one building to the passerby, but are actually separate, sharing a roof.

The architects have used a steep shingle roof so that the building blends with nearby historic buildings such as the Pegasus Press and the St Michael’s Church and bell-tower. The Computer Land

centre in the building is in the new decor for Computer Land Australasia, developed by the development co-ordinator of Computer Land Australia, Mr David von Schill, who has spent recent weeks in New Zealand.
