Commercial design service

Nova Interiors has been established in Christchurch for many years, specialising in commercial furniture. The company’s move to modern, upmarket premises in the newly refurbished Amuri Courts sees the introduction of a Christchurch office for its sister company, Nova Design. Founded in Auck-

land 15 years ago, and established in Wellington for four years, Nova Design has until now operated in the South Island on a limited basis. “With the increase in the building industry in the South Island, we decided to establish ourselves here,” says Mr Graham Daniel, the company’s regional manager.

Nova Design offers a complete design package for commercial buildings and buildings associated with the hospitality trade. In the first instance, the company takes a brief of the client’s requirements, and from that it produces a conceptual plan and budget estimates. Once agreement has been reached, Nova produces full working drawings showing a complete layout scheme, with colour schedules. Visualisations of key areas, such as the reception area or the board room, allow details to be finalised at this conceptual stage. Full sub-trade specifications are provided, and Nova handles negotiations with local bodies and statutory authorities on the client’s behalf. Nova calls tenders for the work, and provides full on-site supervision

and contract programming. The company will arrange for furniture and pot plants, and even select artwork if required. Mr Daniels says pot plants and pictures are essential elements for effective interior design. Although Nova manufactures furniture through its manufacturing arm, Nova Products, Mr Daniels stresses that the company does not exclusively use its own or any other brand of furniture. “We use whoever’s furniture is right. We are not limited to any range, and we deal with all the major manufacturers,” he says. Nova Design will service the whole of the South Island from the Christchurch office, handling the requirements of clients as far away as Queenstown or Invercargill.
