Vintage car rally area proposed
A vintage car rally area may be built at McLeans Island. The creation of an Bha lot in the area was recommended by the Paparua County Council’s townplanning committee last evening. The North Canterbury Catchment Board, which owns the land, proposed that the lot be leased on a long-term basis to the New Zealand Vintage Vehicle Club’s Canterbury branch, for recreational purposes. Permission from two counties is needed. The bulk of the area falls within Eyre County but part of the access drive lies within Paparua County. The lot would be located about 2km from Orana Park. Pellet factory Some Prebbleton residents are worried that a
proposed stock pellet factory would create dust, rodent problems and be another source of smell in the area. Mr P. J. Low sought permission for a garage to run a one-man factory which made stock food pellets for horses. The County Planner, Mr K. Lawn, said he was satisfied after discussions with th e county building inspector that the factory would not be a problem. Crs Jim Baker and June Calvert said they had been approached, by several residents who were concerned about possible dust, noise, smell, rodents, and potential for rubbish fires. Mr Lawn said the applicant was keen to start production. It was felt, however, that a hearing was necessary, and the application was declined.
