Dead man’s car found in Auck.

PA Hamilton The missing car of a homicide victim has been found in Auckland. Mr Brian Watts, aged 52, of Hamilton, was found dead on the side of Te Kowhai Road, on the city outskirts, on Thursday morning. Detective Senior-Ser-geant Brian Husband said the car, a Hillman Avenger, was found by a member of the public about 1 p.m. yesterday in Glen Innes. Two Hamilton detectives had gone to Auckland to check the car. D.S.I.R. staff will assist police in their examination of the vehicle. Police are still seeking a hitch-hiker in connection with their inquiries.

Detective Senior-Ser-geant Husband said police believed the man was

taken from Northland to Auckland by a truckdriver. They also believed the man might have stopped at the Poenamu Hotel, on Auckland’s North Shore, on Wednesday night. That information had been provided by members of the public who spoke to the hitch-hiker, he said. Police are concerned that in spite of the widespread publicity about the inquiry no - trace of the hitch-hiker has been found.

The hitch-hiker is described as European, aged about 30, 183 cm (6ft) tall, of slim build, with shoul-der-length dark-brown hair, full ginger beard, pale complexion, wearing a dark-coloured jacket and jeans and carrying a bag or pack.
