Canty wrestler to tour

PA New Plymouth Canterbury's Russell Perrett is among 14 of New Zealand's top young wrestlers named to tour the United States and Fiji during March and April next year. The team, aged between 15 and 17 years, was selected after trials were held at Featherston. While in the United States the team will compete in tournaments against top American high schools and take part in open tournaments in several states. The young New Zealanders will end the United States leg of the five-week tour when they compete in the Hawaiian Greco Roman and freestyle championships. Abbreviations used: Waikato (Walk.), Taranaki

(Tar.), Wellington (Well.), Otago (O.), Auckland (Auck.), Canterbury (Cant.), Central (Cent.). The team is: Ross Tanner (Waik.), Marcus Coates (Tar.), Brad Hayward (Well.), Lynn Currie (Waik.), Brendan Bishop (Well.), Peter Willis(O.), Raymond Charman (Waik.), Kevin Burnette (Well.), John Shepherd (Auck.), Darryl May (O.), Glenn Sullivan (Well.), Russell Perrett (Cant.), Shaun Bostock (Waik.), Paul Keatch (Cent.). Three other wrestlers Dean Sunbourn (Waik.), Quentin Grojski (Cant.) and Logan Taylor (Waik.) were selected to attend high schools in the United States for three months. They will leave New Zealand on February 1.
