Fears groundless, says Mr Moyle
By

in Wellington Milk vendors’ fears about the restructuring and deregulation of the town milk industry have been dismissed by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Moyle, as “groundless.” He was responding to comments by the president of the Federation of Milk Vendors, Mr lan Murray. The Government had consistently worked to-
wards a scheme which would retain the home delivery service and that assurance had been given by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Caygill, in a public statement on August 12, said Mr Moyle. As recently as September 18, Mr Moyle had again written to the Milk Board confirming an
earlier assurance that the Government was prepared to take whatever time was necessary to ensure the proposed changes to the Milk Act best achieved the objectives of a deregulated system which provided yearround, cost-efficient household and bulk delivery of milk. If the milk vendors were still concerned about some aspects of the proposals, the Government
was still open to negotiation, said Mr Moyle. Matters other than those which had already come into effect were still negotiable, both in content and timing. Mr Moyle said he had told the Milk Board the best course would be for it to meet his officials to clarify the areas of concern, and recommend acceptable and workable changes.
