Obituary Dr Peter Unwin
Dr Peter Christopher Stanley Unwin, the first director of the former Christchurch Hospital Child Health Clinic, has died. He was 73. Dr Unwin was educated at Waihi School and Christ’s College, before studying medicine at the University of Otago. In 1939 he went to Britain, and was on the Staff of Great Ormond Street Hospital, in London. He joined the Royal Air Force in 1941, and served
in India and Burma, before returning to New Zealand. He set up practice as a pediatrician in Christchuch in 1946, and was in practice until 1962. He did much to set up the Child Health Clinic and establish Anglican Social Services. He was a member of the board of Cholmondeley Children’s Home. Dr Unwin is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.
