M.E.D. jobs saved
No jobs will be lost when the M.E.D. showroom closes.
The general manager, Mr Chris Laurie, confirmed yesterday that all seven staff employed in the showroom and the five stores staff working
on showroom-related work would remain or retire.
Mr Laurie said sales at the showroom had dropped in the last year because M.E.D. prices had not been competitive with those of retailers.
“We cannot compete with the bulk buying of national chains,” he said.
A demonstration centre will occupy the showroom site once it has been renovated in October and should open in November, Mr Laurie said.
