Railways cites loss
PA Rotorua The Railways Corporation says industrial action on rail links in Eastern Bay of Plenty has cancelled railways business worth $3 million a year. The corporation’s assistant general manager, Mr Kevin Hyde, said that Caxton Paper Mills at Kawerau had withdrawn its $3-million-a-year business as a result of two disputes. Both were linked with the introduction of twoman crews in place of three-man crews on log trains on the KawerauMurupara line. Members of the Kawerau branch of the National Union of Railwaymen resumed normal working at 4 p.m. on Monday after a six-day strike which halted trains between Murupara and Tauranga.
