Zoologist dies
NZPA-AP St Louis Mr Marlin Perkins, who was the zoologist on Sir Edmund Hillary’s expedition to the Himalayas in search of the abominable snowman in 1960, has died. He was 81. Mr Perkins’ television show brought the wild animal kingdom into millions of American homes for more than two decades. A leading zoologist and naturalist, Mr Perkins narrated “Mutual of
Omaha’s Wild Kingdom” for 23 years until retiring last year. Throughout his career Mr Perkins fought for the protection of endangered species and an increased awareness of animals and reptiles that are feared and killed because of cen-turies-old superstitions. He was the author of four books, “Animal Faces,” "Marlin Perkins’ Zoo Parade,” “I Saw You Afar” with his wife, and “My Wild Kingdom and Autobiography.”
