Painting kept in N.Z.
PA Auckland An oil painting by the New Zealand artist, Frank Wright, has been prevented from leaving the country because of its historical and artistic importance. It is the first time a painting has been cited under the Antiquities Act, which allows for treasures of national importance to be kept in New Zealand. The 90cm by Isocm landscape is entitled “Kahikatea Forest Near Taupiri, Waikato, New Zealand.” It was painted in 1903. The painting, valued at $lOO,OOO, was discovered by Internal Affairs staff when it was being crated by a Parnell art dealer, Mr Grahame Chote, to be send to a . buyer in England.
