Infanticide charge

PA Wellington A Wellington woman was yesterday committed to the High Court on a charge of infanticide. Appearing in the District Court in Wellington for taking depositions, the woman’s name was suppressed until her trial. The charge alleges she caused the death of her newly-born child at Porirua on March 7. She pleaded not guilty, and was remanded to June 30 on continuing bail of $lOOO and surety of $lOOO. A baby appeared to

have been thrown from a Porirua roadside on to boulders, Detective Martin James Legge had earlier told the Court. He said the distance from the top of the road verge to where he found the body of the baby was about two metres. The woman was granted continuing suppression of her name by Justices of the Peace, Messrs T. Cradick and B. Davis.
