Vernon Small to play Soviet chess expert
The four-times New Zealand chess champion, Vernon Small, of Christchurch, will play the first of four games arranged against a visiting Soviet international grandmaster, Eduard Gufeld, next month. Gufeld, aged 50, will arrive in New Zealand on July 2 and take part in a simultaneous exhibition the next day. He will play Small on July 4 before continuing his two-week tour of New Zealand. Other games arranged for Gufeld on tour are against the New Zealand
