Shriver wins final
NZPA-Reuter Birmingham, England An American player, Pam Shriver, showed yesterday she is reaching peak form for Wimbledon when she demolished Manuela Maleeva, of Bulgaria, 6-2, 7-6, in the final of the Birmingham women’s tennis classic.
Shriver, the defending champion and world No. 6, romped through the
first set with her serve-and-volley game working to perfection.
Shriver was exuberant after winning the Beckenham and Birmingham titles in successive weekends.
“I always said I wanted 10 good matches behind me in preparation for Wimbledon and now I have won them I will rest content,” she said.
