Contact lens video wins recognition

The Wellington video company, Capcom, has won further international recognition. Its video “So You’re Thinking About Contact Lenses?” took two awards at the Medikinale International Parma film festival in Italy. This festival, which is under the patronage of the World Health Organisation, is the major international forum for medical, scientific and health care films.

Capcom’s programme, which was made in association with the Christchurch optometrist, John Veale, won a “magna cum laude” award for general excellence and a special award for photography. It was in open competition with 250 film and video programmes from all over the world, and was the only winner from the Southern Hemisphere. The programme is used rt

by optometrists to introduce patients to the selection, fitting and care of contact lenses, and is widely viewed in New Zealand.

The writer and producer, Paul Davidson, says his company is very pleased about the awards. “They provide recognition for our particular philosophy that films for education and training must be produced to the highest possible standards. The awards prove that striving for these standards is well worth while."

The awards follow closely on last year’s success when Capcom won the International Television Association’s silver monitor award for the “best training video in 1985.” This was for a programme on scaffolding for the Department of Labour.
