Cost of electricity
Sir,—On June 3 you published an article describing how cheap New Zealand’s electric power was in relation to other nations surveyed. True as that is for mainland New Zealand, it does not apply here. We pay slightly more than five times as much (38.6c/kWh) as our power is from a diesel alternator. It is an improvement in convenience on our individual generators, but it is still one of the extra costs of living and working here on these islands. — Yours, etc., R. L. CLOUGH. Chatham Islands, June 11, 1986.
