‘Swan Lake’ with a twist
The ballet “Swan Lake” can be seen in a bold new light on "Wild South” this evening on Two. Sequences from the ballet are mixed with film from Lake Ellesmere, the home
of black and white swans.
Black swans were unknown to Europeans until the seventeenth century. Before that they were known only as mythical creatures associated with evil. Farmers on the land around Lake Ellesmere may also have a similar view of black swans, which can cause considerable damage to pastures. However, storms in the breeding seasons in successive years have considerably reduced the swan population.
