Transport board to face cut in grants
Urban Transport Council contributions to the Christchurch Transport Board’s income this year may be down on last year, says the board’s general manager, Mr Max Taylor. The council’s $62.3 million budget was released by the Government last Friday and was less than the council had sought. It will be shared between regions at a meeting in Wellington to-
morrow. “All we can be certain of is that the budget was not as much as the council requested, so it appears our grant, as a proportion of our income, will be less than last year,” Mr Taylor said. Last year the Transport Board got about $5.25 million — about a quarter of its income — from Urban Transport Council grants.
