Tasman fares to rise
PA Wellington All Tasman air fares will rise 5 per cent on May 1. An advisory officer for the international air services branch of Civil Aviation, Ms Dianne Clayton, said the latest rise was because of increased costs being borne by airlines.
Fares out of New Zealand will rise 5 per cent, and those out of Australia 8 per cent. The reason for the gap in the increases is to try to remove the disparity caused by .exchange rates. \ The rise in fares affects all airlines that fly the Tasman. j
People who pay the full air fare before May 1 will not have to stand the increase provided they have a confirmed seat on a flight The last fare increase was in July, 1985, when fares rose 8 per cent out of Australia and 5 per cent out of New Zealand.
