Pornography

Sir, — The Labour Women’s Conference last week-end called on the Government to legislate toughly against pornographic films. Disgusting, degrading brutalities have been passed by the censors because they were relevant to the "meaning” of the film. Technicolour crimes give makers and some viewers pleasure, otherwise they would only be suggested. Now is the time for action. I hope all who can will write to their members of Parliament and express their concerns again. The right to watch what the individual likes in private must yield to the right of half the human race not to be presented as objects for bestiality and the right not to be seen as objects for violence. For susceptible men, viewing such films stimulates action. — Yours, etc., SUSAN TAYLOR. February 17, 1986.
