Bid expected
Speculation is mounting in London that Distillers, the whisky and gin giant, may be preparing a take-over bid for Guinness.
It follows a British Department of Trade and Industry statement that the reference to the Monopolies Commission of a £2OOOM-plus (SNZS426M) offer by Guinness for Distillers has been laid aside because the bid has been dropped. That leaves the way clear for the two companies, who have been keen to merge, to find | a new formula.
