A Canterbury woman, Miss Roberta Cromie, has been appointed to manage Summit Deer Products, Ltd, deer slaughter plant near Tauranga. She is the first woman to hold the top job in a meat-processing plant in New Zealand. Miss Cromie, aged 30, has been office adminstrator at Fortex’s Canterbury Venison, Ltd, plant at Seafield, near Ashburton, since it was opened in November 1982.
