Workers disaffiliate
Freezing workers at the N.C.F. Kaiapoi, Ltd, works voted to disaffiliate with the Labour Party at a meeting yesterday. A spokesman for the workers, Mr Vic Wilson, said that the party’s policy to allow live sheep exports was the main reason for the decision.
The workers voted 202 to 45 to disaffiliate, he
said. The acting secretary of the Canterbury branch of the Meat Workers’ Union, Mr Tiny Hill, said the Kaiapoi workers’ vote would have no impact on the union’s total representation and contribution to the party. “It is only a small sub-
branch of a big union,” he said.
