Food strike grows
Staff of the Kentucky Fried Chicken fast-food chain in Christchurch and Ashburton joined yesterday the campaign by tearooms, cafeteria and restaurant workers over their award. The Kentucky Fried Chicken staff went on strike at 4 p.m. Some picketed the Riccarton
outlet to publicise their claim for $6 an hour as an award rate, instead of the basic hourly rate of $4.83. Other workers in the industry in Christchurch also continued various forms of action yesterday, but the action will be reviewed on Monday.
